Influential Women Recognizes Gigi Kilroe: A Voice Of Hope And Healing For Survivors

HARRISBURG, PA, UNITED STATES, October 29, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Speaker With Resilient Voices Through the Pennsylvania Office of Victim Advocate Draws on a 32-Year Education Career and Lived Experience to Empower Survivors of Sexual Abuse

Harrisburg, Pennsylvania – Gigi Kilroe is a speaker with Resilient Voices, a program of the Pennsylvania Office of Victim Advocate that gives survivors of crime a platform to share their stories and educate others. An author, survivor advocate, and former special education leader, Gigi dedicates her life and work to helping others find hope and healing after trauma. Her specialties include sexual abuse and trauma recovery, survivor advocacy and victim empowerment, and public speaking and trauma-informed education. She has received two awards for her work.

Before becoming a full-time speaker and advocate, Gigi built a distinguished 32-year career in special education. She began as a special education teacher before serving more than two decades as a Special Education Supervisor with BLaST Intermediate Unit #17, where she oversaw educational programs across multiple school districts. Her passion for education and leadership earned her educator award nominations, reflecting her commitment to supporting both students and fellow educators. Special education supervisors help ensure that students with disabilities receive the services and supports outlined in their individualized education programs, working alongside teachers, families, and school leaders across districts.

Gigi earned a Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education, a master’s degree in Special Education and Teaching, and a Special Education Supervisory Certification from Commonwealth University-Bloomsburg, formerly Bloomsburg University. She is a member of the RAINN Speakers Bureau and the Crime Victim Alliance of Pennsylvania, and she serves on the Board of Directors for the YWCA of Lycoming County.

Drawing on her own experiences of childhood abuse, dating violence, and sexual assault in college, Gigi has transformed personal adversity into a mission of empowerment. She is the author of From Within: My Path of Hope and Healing from Sexual Abuse, a memoir that chronicles her healing journey and encourages survivors to reclaim their voice, strength, and sense of purpose. As a volunteer speaker and speaker mentor with Resilient Voices, she has spoken in high schools, colleges, residential treatment facilities, community organizations, and numerous Pennsylvania state prisons, helping both survivors and incarcerated individuals begin their own healing journeys.

Survivor-led education plays an important role in prevention and recovery. When survivors share their experiences in a trauma-informed way, they help audiences understand the lasting effects of abuse, recognize warning signs, and learn how to respond with compassion. Their stories can also show others who have experienced harm that they are not alone and that support is available. Organizations such as RAINN, the nation’s largest anti-sexual violence organization, operate speakers bureaus so that survivors can raise awareness in schools, workplaces, and communities.

Gigi attributes her success to God’s grace and the second chance she has been given in life. That second chance strengthened her faith, gave her a renewed sense of purpose, and inspired her to live with resilience, gratitude, and a commitment to helping others.

The best career advice Gigi has received is that the biggest challenges in education are often not the paperwork or the children, but how adults choose to communicate, collaborate, and lead. That perspective reminded her to focus on building positive relationships and to navigate personalities with patience and professionalism.

Her advice to young women entering her field is to remember that they are beautiful just as they are in this moment. She encourages them to believe in their worth, embrace their unique strengths, and let their confidence guide them as they pursue their goals.

Gigi sees ensuring that survivors are heard and supported as one of the biggest challenges in her field. Recent high-profile cases have reinforced her belief that there must be greater accountability for those responsible and more meaningful action to protect and advocate for victims.

The values that matter most to Gigi in her work and personal life are honesty, integrity, sincerity, and empathy, which she believes build trust, strengthen relationships, and guide ethical and compassionate decisions. Her work is also deeply influenced by losing her mother to cancer at the age of five, an experience that shaped her belief that hope and resilience can emerge from even the most difficult circumstances. She continues to advocate for survivor rights, trauma awareness, and compassionate leadership.

From decades of supporting students as a special educator to standing before audiences as a survivor and advocate, she has turned her story into a source of strength for others. With courage and compassion, Gigi Kilroe continues to show survivors that healing is possible at any stage of life.
