ReMo Homes Awarded $2.15 Million California Grant to Advance Factory-Built Housing in the Los Angeles County Region
Funding will support solutions to permitting, financing, and workforce barriers to accelerate resilient housing and wildfire recovery.
This grant will advance faster, more resilient rebuilding through standardized home plans, factory-ready financing, and workforce training-helping CA families rebuild and stay in their communities.”
LOS ANGELES COUNTY, CA, UNITED STATES, October 29, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ -- ReMo Homes, a California-based factory-built housing manufacturer applying aerospace innovations to homebuilding, has been awarded a $2.15 million planning grant from the California Strategic Growth Council through its Factory-Built Housing Regional Pilot Program.— Vamsi Kumar Kotla, CEO of ReMo Homes
The grant will support efforts to address financing, permitting, and workforce challenges that can slow factory-built housing delivery, helping make resilient, energy-efficient homes more accessible to California communities. The award builds on a $3 million grant from the California Energy Commission that helped advance the company’s technology development.
ReMo’s flagship home, SupReMo™, combines standardized factory manufacturing with all-electric design, solar power, battery storage, and wildfire-resilient materials.
Nearly eight years after the Camp Fire, Paradise is still rebuilding, and many former residents have not returned. In Los Angeles, families displaced by the Eaton and Palisades fires face similar pressures, with long delays, high costs, and a complicated rebuilding process making it harder to return home.
“We need affordable, sustainable, fire-safe, ADU solutions for Altadena and the foothill community affected by the Eaton Fire,” says Dylan Russell, an Altadena community member.
SupReMo is the first prefab home plan included in Los Angeles County’s Standard Plan Catalog for wildfire rebuilding and is approved for statewide use.
“California needs a faster, more resilient approach to rebuilding after disasters,” said Vamsi Kumar Kotla, CEO of ReMo Homes. “This grant will help us bring together standardized home plans, financing designed for factory production, and workforce training so that rebuilding can become more accessible and more families can stay in the communities they call home.”
Working with public agencies, lenders, academic institutions, and community organizations, ReMo Homes will develop standardized design packages and permitting roadmaps to reduce duplicative reviews across jurisdictions. The initiative will also explore financing products better aligned with factory production schedules and develop training to prepare local residents for manufacturing, assembly, and installation jobs.
Lendistry Home Loans will contribute to developing construction-to-permanent mortgage solutions tailored to factory-built housing and piloting them with disaster-impacted homeowners.
“For families rebuilding after a wildfire, access to affordable construction financing can be just as challenging as rebuilding the home itself,” said Lynn von Koch-Liebert, Head of Public Economic Development at Lendistry. “By developing a financing toolkit and sharing lessons and solutions with other lenders, we hope to help scale these approaches across California so more families can rebuild and remain in their communities.”
The initiative aims to create a repeatable model that other factory-built housing practitioners can adopt, connecting housing innovation with faster rebuilding, greater climate resilience, and sustained workforce opportunities.
ReMo thanks the Newsom administration, the Governor’s Office of Land Use and Climate Innovation, the Strategic Growth Council, Los Angeles County Planning, USC School of Architecture, Modutize, the Future Organization, Assemblymember Mike Gipson, and the California Manufacturers & Technology Association for supporting this work.
