EMPLOYEE RIGHTS PROJECT EXPANDS SERVICES AT PALM BEACH LEGAL AID

The Legal Aid Society of Palm Beach County has launched a new Employee Rights Project to help eligible workers protect their rights and address unlawful treatment in the workplace.

The newly formed Employee Rights Project encompasses workers' compensation, wage theft, and employment discrimination work.

The project is led by Lynn E. Sharon, who recently joined the Legal Aid Society of Palm Beach County as an employment discrimination attorney, and supervised by Vanessa Coe. Sharon has litigated significant cases involving employment contracts, non-compete agreements, civil rights cases and employment discrimination matters, with successful outcomes on behalf of employees.

“Our goal is to help employees secure the workplace rights and protections to which they are entitled,” Sharon said.

Employees who experience workplace discrimination, retaliation or a hostile work environment may face unfair demotion, termination, reassignment, or other adverse employment actions. The newly established Employee Discrimination office will provide legal guidance and assistance to eligible workers navigating these challenges.

Depending on the circumstances of a case, available remedies may include injunctive relief, back pay, front pay, lost benefits, compensation for pain and suffering, or reinstatement.

The project can assist eligible workers with the administrative complaint process before the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and the Florida Commission on Human Relations. In appropriate cases, the project may also provide litigation assistance.
