AI Filmmaking Breaks New Ground with Merry the Christmas Witch
New family fantasy feature combines generative AI with traditional filmmaking to bring Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas together in one holiday adventure.
LOS ANGELES, CA, UNITED STATES, August 26, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ -- TW3 Entertainment has completed Merry the Christmas Witch, a new family fantasy feature created through a hybrid production model combining generative AI technology with traditional filmmaking.
Co-written and directed by TW3 Entertainment founder and CEO Tom Walsh, the film follows Merry, the first witch ever born on Christmas Day. After being banished from the witch kingdom, she must return years later when Santa Claus is captured as part of a plan to destroy Christmas, taking audiences through a fantasy world spanning Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas.
Originally envisioned as a traditional live-action production, Merry the Christmas Witch was projected to require an approximately $80 million production budget. TW3 Entertainment’s AI Production Division partnered with generative AI company Phatty Acid to bring the effects-heavy project to the screen through a hybrid approach that combines emerging AI technology with established filmmaking practices.
Professional writers, directors, producers, storyboard artists, editors, actors, an orchestral composer, colorists, sound designers and Foley artists remained part of the production and post-production process.
“AI gave us the ability to build a world that would previously have required a studio-sized budget, but we still approached the movie as filmmakers,” said Walsh. “Story, performance, editing, music, sound and the human decisions behind them remain at the heart of the process.”
Merry the Christmas Witch also marks the beginning of a broader production strategy for TW3 Entertainment. The company has developed more than 400 original characters and creatures across six fantasy worlds and has begun production on its next generative AI-assisted feature, Losopolis.
