U.S. Schumer Demands FBI Chief Immediate Resignation

(MENAFN) Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer on Wednesday demanded the immediate resignation of FBI Director Kash Patel, warning that mounting questions over his conduct are actively corroding public confidence in the country's foremost law enforcement institution.

Taking to the Senate floor, Schumer characterized the ongoing controversy surrounding Patel as a corrosive distraction the FBI cannot afford.

"Every day Kash Patel remains in this job is another day that undermines the FBI and its mission," Schumer said.

The call for Patel's ouster comes days after the FBI director filed a $250 million defamation suit on Monday against The Atlantic, targeting allegations published by the outlet concerning his purported alcohol use—claims Patel forcefully denied before reporters at a news conference Tuesday.

"I've never been intoxicated on the job, and that is why we filed a $250 million defamation lawsuit. And any one of you that wants to participate, bring it on. I'll see you in court," Patel told reporters.

Schumer pressed further, arguing that the unresolved cloud over Patel's character is weakening the institutional standing of a globally significant agency.

"Every day, these questions about Patel, his behavior, his character, linger. They weaken confidence in the leadership of one of the most important law enforcement agencies in the world," Schumer said. "Kash Patel must resign immediately. He's not a serious person."

The New York Democrat closed with a pointed rebuke, stressing that the moment demands disciplined, capable leadership at the bureau's helm.

"America deserves steady, sober leadership from their FBI director, especially during a time of war. Kash Patel is not it and if Kash Patel wants to keep partying, he can do it somewhere else," he said.
