Swedish Premier Explains U.S. Actions’ Effect on Globe
Kristersson delivered his remarks at the annual Swedish security policy gathering in the western resort town of Salen, noting that the global environment has become increasingly hazardous and unpredictable.
Labeling the U.S. stance on Venezuela as a violation of international law, he warned that the precedent could inspire similar conduct and further destabilize the global order.
Turning to Washington’s rhetoric toward Denmark and Greenland, Kristersson argued that the United States should instead express appreciation for Denmark, given its role as a long-standing ally. He also affirmed Sweden’s support for Denmark.
Expressing concern about the vulnerability of smaller states, Kristersson stated: “There is a risk that small countries will be sacrificed along the way. For a country like Sweden, this is especially serious.”
Swedish King Carl XVI Gustaf also addressed the conference, stressing that in light of Europe’s and the world’s grave circumstances, different sectors of society must unite to confront upcoming challenges, with the goal of building a better world where stable nations can coexist peacefully.
At the same event, organized by the Swedish civil defense group Folk och Forsvar, Peter Hultqvist—former defense minister and current chair of the Swedish Parliamentary Defence Committee—urged stronger governmental action on the Greenland matter.
